Stroke kills enough people each year to fill Madison Square Garden to capacity nearly seven times. Every 40 seconds on average, someone in the United States has a stroke—and the impact is disabling and often deadly.
Here in the Hudson Valley, Gwen Borsenberger of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital is working to change that by co-chairing the American Heart Association’s Tri-County CycleNation™.
CycleNation is set for Thursday, October 24 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Gold’s Gym in the Middletown Galleria. A celebration right after, sponsored by Holt Construction, will be held at the 110 Grill at 1 Galleria Drive in Middletown. Participants cycle relay-style for two hours, raising money to fight heart disease and stroke.
Borsenberger SLPD, CCC-SLP, Regional Director of Rehabilitation at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, sees CycleNation as a great way to make a big community health impact.
“As someone who works in healthcare, co-chairing our CycleNation event is important to me because I see real people working hard each day to recover from stroke,” said Borsenberger. “If we can raise awareness and prevent strokes before they happen, we can build healthier communities together.”
CycleNation’s relentless team of participants funds life-saving heart and stroke research, and focus on a future that eliminates stroke and heart disease.
“We are so privileged to have Gwen leading the Tri-County CycleNation event. She is committed to being a relentless forces for a world of longer, healthier lives. And her impact in fostering healthier Hudson Valley communities is extraordinary,” said Eleni Smalley, Senior Regional Director of the American Heart Association based in Poughkeepsie, NY.
